what is Barre Blend?

The Barre Blend workout program is a Beachbody at home workout program that launched in January 2020.

It was created by Super-Trainer Elise Joan, who also a part of the three week yoga retreat and created the I AM meditation series.

What makes Barre Blend unique is the fact that it is the first barre program that beachbody has come out with and is a fusion of barre ballet, pilates, and cardio interval training.

Essentially, it’s high intensity, low impact to help you feel graceful, strong, and still get results (especially that booty, if it’s one of your main forever goals — like it is for me!).

Since it’s release, they have also added the I AM meditations to match with the I AM affirmation cards.

I’m a sucker for a glass full of positivity in the morning, and often I will pick up an I AM affirmation card before a workout regardless of whether I am doing the Barre Blend Workout Program.

I’m pretty obsessed that the I AM meditations are only four minutes and they’re super easy to get you in a zone of clarity & some high vibes right before a workout (especially if fitness isn’t your favorite … yet!).

To be honest, I switch between the I AM meditations and using The Tapping Solution App Micro Boost Pre-Workout tapping session, which is 3.5 minutes.

As I’m typing this blog post though, I’m thinking that another great place would be to have them at your home office desk, so that you can start your work day off with a positive vibe & maybe it’ll remind you to take four minutes in the middle of the day to meditate and relax that brain that’s working so hard for you!

Four unexpected benefits of beachbody’s barre blend

  1. You will begin to feel more graceful.

Blame it on the fact that it’s a program with roots in pilates and ballet or the fact that Elise teaches in a way that seems more intuitive than the dance teachers I’ve had before, but by the end of the program I was feeling much more graceful than at the start.

Was I a dancer or anything that seemed to resemble a dancer? Probably not, but I started having this obsession with pointing my toes and prancing around the house like one.

It also isn’t a coincidence that I started asking myself around this time, “what would self-grace look like right now?” in an effort to decrease how hard I was on myself in fitness, my career, and general expectations of how I showed up in the world and the results I expected myself to achieve.

I’m not sure what it all was, but I can promise you this — if you let yourself feel a little awkward in the beginning your body will learn the moves and you will start buying into allowing yourself to move more gracefully in barre blend and in life.

  2. You will start seeing yourself as a stronger version of yourself in other aspects of your life.

Listen up girlfriend, we’re adventurous souls and these adventurous souls of ours require us to be strong. We know this, yet sometimes that little voice inside of us tries to get us to believe we’re not capable of incredibly ambitious things.

It’s time for us to keep silencing it with the roar of our own confidence. Elise’s I AM cards and I AM meditations are four minutes of pure brilliance. Made to give us quiet confidence that we can take with us all day.

You deserve to look in that mirror and be BLOWN AWAY by what looks back at you, that strong, brilliant human with a heart filled of pure grace, compassion, and grit.

You’re going to do that wild, ambitious thing you want to do, create, and be — but first, you’ve got to believe that YOU ARE everything you need and one way to get there is to use the I AM affirmation cards & meditations — because we all need reminders and it’s okay if those reminders happen every single day.

  3. You will check your booty out in the mirror several times a day.

Elise puts a ton of glut exercises into the barre blend workout program. She uses the beachbody resistance loops in addition to solid ballet and pilates moves that are known to create results.

Your booty is going to be so on point, you’re going to start starring at it like it’s the newest shiny object on the block, trust me.

PS if anyone hasn’t told you that it’s okay to oogle your own skin & bones yet, girlfriend — get after it. You created that body of yours, admire it if you want to.

If you’re not in the admiring stage yet, have compassion for where it’s going and how you’re putting in the effort to create something new.

Seriously though, this program is flat booty syndrome gold. Make sure that you get new resistance loops though if yours are wearing out, because you don’t want them to snap or not give the resistance they’re meant to and effect your progress!

  4. You’ll get more flexible and maybe even improve your pelvic floor tightness (wait I bet you didn’t know you had some).

The barre blend workout program is a mixture of strength, flexibility, endurance, and grace. It has such a well rounded balance that I’m pretty obsessed.

I am not a flexible human. My dad cannot touch his toes, in fact, he can barely TOUCH HIS KNEES. I inherited those mesomorph genes.

It makes building muscle fabulous, but stretching those muscles out — a constant battle. Thankfully, I found circus and have been trying on/off to do the splits since 2011. I’m 34 years old and not there yet, so ya know I’ve got a bit more time ;).

Elise’s stretches, especially this one, are gold for your hips and your pelvic floor.

pelvic floor tightness stretch

Your pelvic floor can get tight from never learning how to relax it, stress, exercise/sports, or trauma. Pelvic floor tightness can be dysfunctional for peeing (urinary urgency or incontinence), pooping (bowel dysfunction), and sex (pain with sex or avoidance of certain positions).

While a pelvic floor physical therapist like Amanda, who is mine, is your best option for pelvic floor tightness, you might find that a program like barre blend can help relax the muscles surrounding your pelvic floor (and maybe even a few pelvic floor muscles), which might surprise you by showing some of your symptoms improve.

You will also more likely notice more flexibility in your hips, hamstrings, and ankles.

Your glutes and abs getting stronger might also improve any other aches/pains you may have including back pain, although always check with a physician or physical therapist before starting a workout program if you have underlying issues or conditions.

barre blend calendar

Here is an honest review of barre blend

I started barre blend in January of 2019, right when it came out for VIP access. I had never taken a barre class before and quit ballet in second grade because it was super boring.

I am not a dancer, but I am obsessed with the circus, specifically the rope, silks, and lyra, and more specifically, me being in the circus on all of those apparatuses.

In March of 2019 I was doing my third high level performance and my last before we moved from WA state to Wisconsin courtesy of the United States Marine Corps.

When I’m training for a show, I know one thing for certain — my cross training or other workouts have to be low impact and low shoulders, because I am doing so much pushing/pulling and holding my own body weight up in the air.

Barre Blend was absolutely the most perfect program for me and I will go back to it every single time I am training for a show.

Other programs (MM100, LIIFT 4) were too intense for me to train for a show and complete at the same time, but barre blend was beyond perfect.

It helped me feel graceful, work on endurance I needed for the show, and even gave me ideas for my floor routine.

Elise was amazing in her positivity and although at the time, she hadn’t released the I AM meditations yet (only the I AM cards), I was hanging on her every positive word.

I was so glad that I had bought the I AM cards then, especially because I often get nervous before a show and it was great to keep an optimistic and strength filled mindset.

In the years since they came out, I still use them to set the stage before most workouts.

I also either do a quick eft tapping session or use the I AM meditations (four min) to get my mind clear and ready to work out.

I find even a few minutes of releasing emotion and getting still can do so much for my day and productivity.

The workouts are fun, engaging, and as challenging as you need them to be. They’ve thought of everything from the modifier to the intensifier to the regular cast.

I personally chose not to use upper body weights and to focus on making my moves as graceful as possible.

I really feel as though one could get results either way. Even without the weights you can see from the Instagram reels below that I was getting killer abs.

Technically I was also doing circus workouts at this time as well, but I do feel as though the program contributed a ton to helping them become defined.

I bought the barre blend socks and used them sometimes, but not all the time. I liked to slide a little bit more than they allowed me to, but they are super soft and I do still have them and wear them for yoga.

I think if you already have them or are on a surface that is really slippery they would be good to try. Otherwise, maybe grab a pair off amazon to try first because they might be cheaper and easier to return if they’re not your thing.

In my experience, Barre Blend is perfect for anyone who is:

  • looking for workouts that are low impact

  • wants to define their abs

  • wants to improve flexibility

  • is or was a dancer or who wants to move more gracefully

  • is looking for that elusive unicorn of a cute butt

Here is a cute mini reel on Instagram on a few pictures of my journey. And in case you’re curious: this was my routine from March 2020 to Cringe.

testimonials & barre blend results

PSA on results: they’re shiny, but they’re not the end all be all. You may get them in 8 weeks or it may take longer. What is important is the discipline you build that will literally change every aspect of your life, not just how you look and how you start to feel with exercise (confidence, more energy, more vibrant).

If you’re really struggling with staying consistent despite not seeing the results you want to see, I’d highly recommend taking the online nutrition courses beachbody offers: 2B Mindset or Portion Fix as well as checking out recommended personal development books.

Nutrition + Mindset + Exercise literally will change your whole life. There’s crazy science of people who got plastic surgery but the picture of themselves in their mind didn’t change so they were still unhappy with how they looked.

Body image is a crazy bird, but we can make peace with it when we understand that we’re taking actions consistent with who we want to be and the type of person who has the life we want to have.

ready to do Barre Blend?

Have you tried the barre blend Sample Workout and you’re ready to do the whole program? I get it girl, I absolutely loved it when I did it too back in January of 2020 (how is it already a year plus since then??).

Curious about what I chose when I first got started?
In May of 2015, I bought the 21 day fix “Veggie Haters” bundle BUT the caveat is that the Fit Kit Bundle didn’t exist yet (OG beachbody fan over here!).

If I was getting started today, I would buy the Fit Kit Bundle because I hate muscle soreness (recover), struggle with bloating + aren’t always a huge fan of veggies (shakeology), and struggle with hitting that snooze button and must workout in the morning otherwise it doesn’t get done (energize).

In the end, the choice is all yours girlfriend. The important thing is you get moving & start mastering those home workouts so you can get that confidence that only movement can build.

Here are your options:

  1. Barre Blend “Fit Kit” Bundle

  2. Barre Blend “Too Sore Too Tired” Bundle

  3. Barre Blend "Curb Your Cravings" Bundle

  4. Barre Blend “Go and Glow” Bundle

  5. Workout only option

Curious about what supplements I use, how often, or for what purpose/result? Check out my supplement stash.

If you already have Beachbody on Demand:

  1. I AM Affirmation Cards

  2. Barre Blend Socks

*includes barre blend, I AM meditations, and barre blend pre & post natal. As well as Three Week Yoga Retreat the other program Elise co-created.
