Hi! I’m Lauren and I write books in my spare time and self-publish them on Amazon. In 2020, I officially became a self-published author by publishing both the Pediatric Exercise Handbook: A Developmental How To For Parents and Clinicians as well as my first children’s book, “The Boy and the Boomerang: An Adventure in Haiku.”
I became kind of obsessed with writing and self-publishing (mostly because I have a hard time being told what to do!). If you’d like updates on the process, to see early drafts of illustrations or the writing process, or to know when the book is officially released for purchase on Amazon, please put in your info above & you’ll be added to the “wait list!” This will also serve as the email list for my other writing projects as well.
FUN FACTS ABOUT THE BOOKS CURRENTLY ON AMAZON
The idea of the book came about because my husband told me he was an author of a Children’s book in Haiku format about a boomerang that was thrown and never came back in 2009.
In 2012, I had decided it was time for that Children’s book to actually exist, so one day while my dad was visiting CA where I was in Physical Therapy school at time, I wrote it while waiting for my dad to get ready to go out. The words flew effortlessly in my iphone note app.
I gave Dylan a really awfully “illustrated,” hard copy of the book for Christmas in 2012 and it sat in our living room for seven years.
In 2019, Dylan decided I should really find an actual illustrator and self-publish the children’s book on Amazon
In October, I found Natia.
The Pediatric Exercise Handbook
I co-wrote the book in 2016 with my friend and colleague Katlin Middleton in preparation for our first mission trip to provide pediatric physical therapy to children in Nepal.
We were 30 days out from leaving and decided, you know what we need for this trip? to write a book. We were audacious enough to believe we could do it and it was picked up from Staples the day before we left.
It took three years to find the courage to take self-publishing the book seriously. We created more content and revisions to the manuscript (google doc) in October of 2019, created the cover in December 2019-January 2020, and worked on formatting the text for Amazon’s specific style of document (maybe even more time consuming than writing the book!).
We officially self-published the book in February 2020 (2/9/2020- my mom’s birthday!). I was sitting in a breakfast restaurant with my fiance and parents when it went live.
To date, it sells 50-60 copies per month in the US as well as internationally. There is a paperback and kindle option.
